Overview

In the west coast, in the territory of Kitaa, there is Uummannaq Kommunea. The blazon of Uummannaq represents a white bird between two white stripes (maybe rivers or fjords) in a blue field: I found it at www.uummannaq.gl. For further information about the town and its surroundings, see at www.greenland-guide.gl/uummannaq-tourist.

Aachen's 1982 book [ach82], as quoted in www.ngw.nl, says that the arms were granted in 1975 and that the bird in question is a fulmar.

I recently researched municipal flags in Greenland by correspondence with municipal authorities in Greenland. The results have just been published in the Fall 2005 issue of Nordisk Flaggkontakt, the journal of the Nordic Flag Society [joe05].
I managed to get confirmation from 15 of 18 municipalities all using the same flag model - the coat of arms on a white field (the colour white carries no symbolism). Uummannaq is one of them. I was informed the flag is of the same proportions as Dannebrog.

Qaanaaq, Upenaviuq and Uummannaq have merged to form Avannaata Kommunia.
