Description

Local Council Qazrin (pronounced Qatzrin) is named after an ancient city whose ruins are nearby and its nickname is 'capital of the Golan'. It is situated in the centre of the Golan Heights in area that was siezed from Syria in 1967. Est. 1977. Pop. 6500. On the city hall is a white flag with yellow emblem, inscriptions above and below the emblem. Elsewhere there is also a blue flag with white emblem. The municipal emblem has not been published in the official gazette (Rashumot) and is thus unofficial.

Mr. Ron Moskovic, Local Council clerk, sent me the emblem with no further information on 7 November 2001.

The main motif of the emblem is an ancient gate of a synagogue that was built in the 6th century and was located in nearby excavations. Photos of the gate at www.qatzrin.muni.il [retrieved, picture] and www.tiuli.com [old version retrieved, picture]. More information (in Hebrew) at www.golan.org.il [retrieved].
Qazrin celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special logo designed by Ed Van-Hoyn. I don't know if the logo appeared on a flag too. The logo at www.qatzrin.muni.il [not retrievable].
