Flag

Located in Tottori City Tottori Prefecture and established in 1949. The university flag has navy blue background with a white emblem in the center. The square and circle emblem was used as the family emblem of Lord Ikeda, lord of the Tottori domain, even before the well-known butterfly emblem, according to historian Masayoshi Okajima, who wrote in 1841. Although the origin of the design of the square and circle is not clear, it was said in later times to represent the two provinces of Inbaku, "Inaba-no-kuni" and "Hoki-no-kuni" that make up the Tottori domain, and at the end of the Edo period and during the Meiji era, it was also said to represent both the civil and military arts. The emblem of the university was devised in 1952 by then Director of the Student Affairs Division Koichi Suzaki at the request of then President Takashi Sasaki, and was designed by Associate Professor Shigeru Matsukami of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with the word "大學" in a square and circle. The design was approved by the Board of Trustees in 1985.
