Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua (USMA) is located in Panamá City.
USMA was founded on 27 May 1965 by Father Benjamin Ayechu, Director of the San
Agustín College, as the first private university in the country. Catering 3,000
students and 500 professors, USMA is divided into the Faculties of
Administration Sciences, Life Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences, Law and
Political Sciences, and Humanities and Religion Sciences.

The flag of USMA is vertically divided sky blue-white with a cross flory in the
white part. Sky blue represents the patron saint of the university, the Blessed
Virgin. White represents peace. The cross, taken from the coat of arms of the
university, symbolizes the Catholic origin of the university.

"The Technological University of Panama, Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá
(UTP) in Spanish, is the second largest university in the country and it is the
highest hierarchy public institution, regarding higher education in Panama. It
was formerly the Engineering School of the University of Panama, which in 1975
became Polytechnic Institute and due to the need of a new model of university,
it became the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá, by means of Law 18 of August,
13th, 1981"
