There are three St. Mary's Colleges in Indiana, all Roman Catholic women's colleges. This college was formerly known as The College of St. Mary of the Lake, and is closely associated with the University of Notre Dame, which at the time of its founding by the French order the Congregation of the Holy Cross (CSC) was known as the College of Notre Dame du Lac before it adopted its present name shortly before WWI. The College of St. Mary of the Lake, which shares a campus with the University of Notre Dame and uses its postal address, is actually within the boundaries of the city of South Bend, in northern Indiana.
