Fans of Meghan Markle have noticed an awkward blunder with her new Instagram account handle, accidentally suggesting she's seperated from Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex returned to Instagram with her own solo account, which has gained 458,000 followers at the time of writing. She returned with a simple handle 'meghan' and one singular post, a video reel, reports the Mirror.
The account has yet to be verified by Instagram with a blue tick, but it's thought the account is legitimate. The video shared by Meghan on New Year's Day was filmed by husband Prince Harry - a sure indication that the pair are still together. However, this didn't stop die hard fans of royal protocol spotting Meghan seemingly using a title only royal divorcees use.
The clip showed the royal and former actress racing along the beach before she bends over to write '2025' in the wet sand. The clip was reportedly filmed by husband Prince Harry, amid rumours about the state of their relationship. The Royal pair have been appearing at events alone and Prince Harry was even forced to address the rumours by laughing it off.
A close friend previously claimed that the couple have a 'functional and healthy relationship' and are simply busy with work. And now, following the Duchess's return to social media, fans noticed that her profile first only stated her first name before it was changed to 'Meghan, Duchess of Sussex'.
A royal fanpage on X/ Twitter questioned whether the couple separated after noticing the so-called blunder. They wrote along with screenshots of Meghan's profile before and after it was changed: "Meghan’s Instagram has already had an update, changing her name in the profile from “Meghan” to “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.”
"Hopefully we will see another update, as she left out the “The” in her title. No “The” before Duchess of Sussex means she is a divorcee." Another pointed out how Prince Andrew's ex-wife goes by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. "Meghan’s title is “Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.” She has “The” as she is the spouse of the current title holder. Sarah has no “The” as a divorcee." The Mirror have reached out to Meghan's reps for comment.
Given Prince Harry captured the clip Meghan used for her Instagram return, it's highly unlikely the name change implies any change to the couple's marital status. When Prince Harry laughed off the rumours of a split, he added that he felt 'genuinely' sorry for the trolls, whose "hopes are just built and built, and it doesn’t happen". Meanwhile, Meghan's return to social media follows the former Suits actress and husband Harry sharing some festive cheer with their 2024 Christmas card, featuring a joyful family photo. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's card last month showcased a new snap of their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
One of the six photos in the greeting captures the kids from behind as they excitedly dash towards their parents. The card depicts Meghan beaming at Archie while Harry greets Lili, affirming his recent remarks about her long, red hair - just like her big brother's. "On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation," the card's message read.
