Q1’24 OLED Tablet Panel Shipments Jump 131% Y/Y to a Record High, Another Record Expected in Q2’24 as Apple Ramps OLED iPad Pro Volumes

  • Q1’24 OLED tablet panel shipments rose 131% Y/Y in Q1’24 to a record high and are expected to jump another 127% Q/Q and 333% Y/Y in Q2’24 to another record high as Apple ramps OLED iPad Pro production and shipments.
  • Apple led in Q1’24 OLED tablet panel procurement with a 47% share and is expected to widen its lead to 72% in Q2’24.
  • The 13” M4 iPad Pro is expected to lead in procurement volume in both Q1’24 and Q2’24.
  • OLED tablets are expected to continue to gain share through 2028 and beyond as the price gap with LCDs narrow. OLED tablets are currently projected to reach a 16% unit share and 55% revenue share in 2028 as more brands offer more OLED tablets.

OLED tablet panel shipments rose 131% Y/Y in Q1’24 to a new high of 1.72M as reported by DSCC’s Quarterly Advanced IT Display Shipment and Technology Report. Apple accounted for 47% of the Q1’24 OLED tablet panel procurement as it prepared for the launch of its two new OLED iPad Pro’s launched in May. It was followed by Huawei at 25% and Samsung at 17%. Microsoft also saw Q/Q growth as it prepared to launch its Surface Pro Copilot+ 11th edition tablet. There were 15 OLED tablet models procuring panels in Q1’24, up from 13 in Q4’23. The 13” M4 iPad Pro had the highest share on a procurement basis at 35% followed by the 11.1” M4 iPad Pro at 12.5% and the Mate Pad Pro 11 at 11%.

Q2’24 is expected to be the peak quarter for the year on a panel procurement basis, up 127% Q/Q and 333% Y/Y to over 3.9M OLED tablet panels. Apple’s volumes are expected to jump 246% Q/Q with Huawei, Microsoft and Samsung also seeing growth. Apple’s share is expected to jump to 72% at the expense of most other brands with Huawei #2 at 13%. The 13” M4 iPad Pro is expected to lead for the second straight quarter with a 38% share followed by the 11.1” iPad Pro with a 34% share and with the Huawei Mate Pad Pro 13.2” coming in third with a 5% share.

The report also reveals total tablet units and revenues and OLED penetration of each out to 2028. DSCC expects OLED tablets to grow to 16% of the global tablet market on a unit basis and 55% on a revenue basis as prices fall and consumers recognize the visual performance advantages of OLEDs. DSCC expects OLED tablet display revenues to grow at a 72% CAGR vs. 10% overall with OLED tablet unit volumes growing at a 51% CAGR vs. 2% for the overall market.
