The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted an operating licence to Rewa Airport, marking a significant milestone for Madhya Pradesh’s Vindhya region. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted that this development would significantly enhance both economic growth and regional connectivity in the state.

With the addition of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh now boasts six airports, the others being located in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Khajuraho. An official noted that this new airport will play a key role in boosting the infrastructure and economic potential of the largely underserved Vindhya region, reports PTI.

“The Rewa Airport has officially received the DGCA licence, which is a major step toward improving regional connectivity and stimulating economic activity in the state,” Yadav stated in a press release issued Monday night. He also mentioned that the airport’s development aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India-Developed Madhya Pradesh,’ ensuring that it becomes a cornerstone for the development of the Vindhya region.

The airport has been approved to operate both passenger and cargo flights, a move that is expected to drive tourism, employment, and trade. Rewa is known for its cultural and historical landmarks, and the airport will make these attractions more accessible, potentially drawing in more visitors and businesses.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, a native of the Vindhya region, expressed his excitement over the development, stating that the long-standing dream of air travel for the citizens of the region would soon become a reality. He underscored that the commencement of operations at Rewa Airport would give a fresh impetus to the economic, social, and cultural development of the area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Shukla extended his congratulations to the people of the Vindhya region and the entire state, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and Chief Minister Yadav for their efforts in making this project a reality.

The opening of Rewa Airport is expected to not only bridge the connectivity gap in the Vindhya region but also contribute to the broader economic development of Madhya Pradesh by fostering greater movement of goods and people across key regions of the state.
