Adidas is really stepping up its Samba game this year. Again. After checking out the ‘Nylon Pack’ earlier this week, the Adidas Samba OG ‘Black Gum’ has just been revealed. It's all very simple and all very clean, but what sets this apart from the rest is the fact that it's crafted in Italy. Bellissimo and so on and so forth.

Sure, most Sambas are made out of leather. But this pair gets an Italian calfskin upgrade that makes the humble Samba feel a little more premium. Dipped in a ‘Core Black’ colourway, it's overlaid by suede across the toe area and tied together with a pair of waxed cotton laces. The inside has been lined with tan leather that adds a lovely bit of contrast, and underfoot, this sneaker throws it all the way back with the original gum rubber midsole that was first introduced in the '40s.

Adidas' signature Trefoil logo is printed on the tongue, and “Samba” branding is debossed across the lateral sides in a metallic gold foil. All of this then comes packed in a special edition shoebox that has been made exclusively for this ultra-luxe release.

The Samba has had one of the biggest years on record. According to fashion search platform Lyst, searches have spiked by 350 per cent, while Google has reported an increase of 300 per cent in the past couple of months alone. And with collabs from the likes of JJJJound and Mita coming in hot, the hype is here to stay.
