Eddie Redmayne is going so in on the Golden Globes red carpet

For the first big awards show of the year, the actor's fit let big risks pay off

Eddie Redmayne played a stone-cold assassin in The Day of the Jackal. And while that was all fictional and all, the actor showed that he's also a bit of a killer IRL at the Golden Globes. Because while a lot of guys hit the red carpet in straight-up black tie, Redmayne knocked us dead with one of his wildest suits to date.

In Los Angeles, the Fantastic Beasts star pulled up in single-breasted jacket that was covered in a slick supersized check from Valentino. For his shirt of choice, Redmayne opted for a silky cream base with a Mandarin collar: the go-to for villains, massage therapists and pure fashionheads ever since the 1962 Bond Dr No. And of course, like all the big Hollywood guys these days, he rocked all of this sans tie.

It's a relatively new thing that's been dominating the award show circuit as of late. As GQ's very own Mahalia Chang puts it: “We weren't in the room when Hollywood broke things off with the best ties of tradition. In what felt like a very stark contrast to red carpets past, there [are] more guys not wearing a tie than there [are] guys in ties.”

Down south, the Oscar nominee jumped into a pair of matching trousers that were perfectly cut right above his glossy Santoni shoes. And to round it all off, he strapped an Omega Seamaster Railmaster to his left wrist.

Which, funnily enough, is the exact same model that his character wore on The Day of the Jackal. So yeah, maybe he and Eddie Redmayne aren't so dissimilar after all.
