Dua Lipa's a fashion girl. That's why we recently named her one of the most stylish people on the planet. She just gets it. Out on the streets and on the red carpet, the clotheshorse has managed to perfect and hone a surprising, daring, and never-dull wardrobe: Versace pinks, leather dresses and GCDS' Spongebob Squarepants-inspired lace dresses. Now, it's onto your favourite suit.
At this weekend's Variety Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles, Lipa wore grey and white pinstriped tailoring from ascendant outfit the Attico, a brand that's become a hit with Lori Harvey, Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber.
But this wasn't just any old suit. This was one that had more volume. And it was indicative of her ability to pull off, well, anything. Worn with a pair of blacked-out shades, blocky platform lace-ups and an assortment of bits from Rainbow K jewellery, it was A Winner.
And sure, her long-term stylist Lorenzo Posocco plucked it from the Attico's Resort ‘23 collection, but this was a look that quietly sang to the ’a-bigger-suit-is-better' thing shaping the menswear collections (Dior, Casablanca, Gucci et al) for this season and the next. And probably the one after that. Smart yet baggy in all the right places, it was womenswear that looked like menswear, but still had neatly subtle feminine touches (the single button, the sharp high peak lapels). It had the nonchalance of those Armani suits Richard Gere famously wore in the 80s, and wouldn't have looked out of place in the wardrobe of George Clooney, who was all about loose-fitting unstructured tailoring in the early days of his career.
Of course, there were haters, because The Internet. But it's 2022 baby, and gender norms have been flattened. New year. New suit. New reason to love Dua.
