Since he became a household name back in 2011 thanks to his role in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Kit Harington has become one of this country’s best-loved acting talents. Treasured as much for his on-screen antics as his rugged good looks and perfectly tousled barnet, his star continues to shine.

And when it comes to style, he gets it right time and time again. While you might know Harington for his beaten-up fur cape on the small screen as Jon Snow, off-screen he’s got one of the most replicable, always-works wardrobes going.

A red-carpet regular, the 34-year-old has perfected his look, opting for a muted colour palette and consistently making conscious style moves, such as a switching out a shirt for a rollneck jumper.

Below are four style lessons you can learn from Kit Harington.

1. Air ties FTW
Steve Granitz

As one of the relatively new kids on the red-carpet circuit, Kit Harington, along with Rami Malek and Austin Butler, is using his standing to rip up the old-school rule book and do something different. Case in point: he's an advocate for the air tie. An air tie sees the wearer sport no tie at all, averting from the conventional red-carpet dress codes which, by and large, called for black tie (tradition dictates one wears a bow tie to a ceremony with an eveningwear dress code).

Attending the 71st Emmy Awards in 2019, Harington wore a one-button dinner jacket with a fuss-free satin-shawl Duchess collar by Givenchy. This collar type allowed Harington's air tie to shine. Our advice? Go for a shirt with a slightly larger collar, which will fill the empty space. Oh, and keep it done up.

2. Black and blue works
Gotham

The common belief that a black and navy-blue combo is verboten is absolute tosh. Here at GQ, much like Kit Harington, we're all for the colour combination. Black and navy look fantastic together and Harington has cleverly paired his rollneck knit with his shoes, pulling everything together in a simple but sharp manner.

As GQ's Style And Grooming Director, Teo van den Broeke, says, “Some of the best tuxedos come cut from midnight-blue silk, finished with black lapels. And don’t even get me started on the Gallic excellence of a navy cable-knit sweater worn with a black duster coat. C’est chic (not freak).”

3. A shirt isn’t needed
Taylor Hill

A week before he attended the Game Of Thrones series eight premiere, Harington sported a black T-shirt with a suit. Gracing the red carpet to celebrate the end of the GOT era, he rocked a black turtleneck. What're we taking away from this? That the shirt isn't necessary.

4. Skinny jeans aren't dead
Mark Robert Milan

Ultra-skinny spray-on jeans probably make you think of X Factor's Frankie Cocozza and Pete Doherty, or of the long list of now-forgotten Love Island contestants. Essentially, there's such a thing as too skinny and those aforementioned names have gone too far.

Championed by Hedi Slimane during his time at Dior Homme, later at Saint Laurent and still now at Celine, the skinny jean can be worn in a way that doesn't scream “I gym, bro”. Much like Kit Harington, stick to black (leave white jeans to the Marbella-vacationing Towie clan), don't wear a cling-film-style pair which clutches your nether regions and always wear socks. And please avoid the term “spray-on”.

5. Cinch that waist
Stefania D'Alessandro

Attending the Eternals premiere during the 16th Rome Film Festival Harington stepped out in a waist-nipped, double-breasted suit that accentuated his muscular form.
