There's nothing worse, in our collective opinion, than an overly matched-up look. Double denim worn with a dose of irony? Just about OK. Matching belt and shoes teamed with a matching wallet? Death.
One way to make the matchy-matchy look work this summer, however, could be to team your sunglasses with your suitcase – that is at least if 120-year-old German luggage brand Rimowa has anything to do with it.
Best known for producing chicer-than-chic ribbed aluminium suitcases, the LVMH-owned brand (which is overseen by the youngest member of the Arnault luxury dynasty, Alexandre) has this week launched its first range of sunglasses – and it's imbued with all the sleek simplicity of the company's famous cases.
Split into three distinct categories, the inaugural Spring/Summer collection is as broad as it is cool, not least thanks to the wide array of sci-fi-esque coloured reflective lenses and aviation-inspired frame shapes.
Rimowa Air is the lightweight optical range, Rimowa Bridge features frames that are inspired by the chunky industrial forms of the brand's cases and the frames in Rimowa Rim are made of acetate, designed to feel featherweight on the face.
“Rimowa Eyewear is characterised by modern shades that share the innovative design, lightweight nature and signature features of the namesake luggage,” say the brand about the new launch. “The inaugural Spring/Summer collection features three classic shapes and several colours available in each. Colour matched with selected Rimowa suitcases for a coordinated look, the glasses are stylish accompaniments to a travel ensemble and yet another way in which Rimowa redefines functional luxury through relentless product innovation.”
