Through his own brand Aimé Leon Dore, which he launched in 2014, Teddy Santis and New Balance have been collaborating for a number of years. In the past they've produced highly-coveted updates to NB's 550 silhouette, which you won't be able to buy anywhere these days, as well as a chunky white and blue 991 style and a rust-hued 990.

It was in 2021 that Santis and the Boston-based sports label decided to amp things up with the announcement that the Greek designer would be taking on a creative role at the company, likely in the hope that he could bring some of the buzz surrounding Aimé Leon Dore to the company. In his role at New Balance Santis oversees all creative direction of the Massachusetts label's premium Made in USA sub-line (shoes that are made with supple suede and luxury leather), and in April of this year he unveiled his first collection with the brand. This ultra-hyped capsule drop is available to shop from today following a string of delays due to the pandemic and consequential shipping issues.

The collection comprises three classic Made In USA 990 silhouettes – the V1, V2, and V3 – which are characterised by their fuss-free silhouettes, and which get larger, chunkier and more dad shoe-esque as the number increases. Santis' take on the sneakers come in the shoe's signature grey colourway, with additional hits of a new, stony tone for Balance, “marblehead”. Each of the shoes, which are crafted using premium pigskin suede and mesh, and feature textured, hairy suede details, across the upper, have been designed to go with anything you might have pre-existing in your wardrobe. Indeed upon the announcement of his role at Balance, Santis explained “I was drawn to New Balance for the way it has built a business founded on values such as integrity and authenticity, rather than passing hype."

As well as the sneaks Santis has designed, much like he has with his ALD and NB collabs, apparel for you to get cosy in. A hoodie has been crafted from an ultra-soft French terry fabric, which taps into New Balance's heritage as a sports brand, while a T-shirt and joggers feature minimal branding, making them ideal for everyday wear. Each product comes in neutral tones of navy, marblehead, grey and black.
