Tom Hiddleston just added a Hublot Classic Fusion to his already awesome watch collection

In 40 years time, when Marvel rolls out another Thor sequel with Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth – now in their eighties, still wheezing around as Loki and Thor – we can be sure of one thing. Tom Hiddleston will still look great.

The Night Manager star is a bona-fide style icon. Ordinarily, he’s dressed in something refined and classic, which was the case this week when he attended a special screening of the upcoming AppleTV+ series, The Essex Serpent

Pictured alongside co-star Claire Danes, the classic tailoring, white shirt and air tie grabbed the headlines but it’s what he has on his wrist that intrigued us the most.

Hublot Classic Fusion Blue Chronograph Titanium Bracelet

Namely, a Hublot Classic Fusion Blue Chronograph Titanium Bracelet timepiece with a satin-finished and polished titanium case, bezel and bracelet and a blue sunray dial to match the colour (and twinkle) of his eyes.

Hiddleston has pretty strong watch form, and as you’d expect his tastes have always veered pretty classic. In the past few years he’s been spotted wearing a trio of Cartiers in the shape of a Santos-Dumont, a Pasha de Cartier and a Cartier Drive, while he’s also a fan of a Montblanc Heritage Spirit Automatic as well as Tissot Couturier Chronograph. Where these watches vary in price point, they draw strong similarities in their design – uncomplicated, clean and sophisticated, each reassuringly good at telling the time with next to no distractions.

Hublot is better known for making noise with its sometimes bonkers, other times colourful, always quite showy Big Bang novelties – a case in point being this year’s purple sapphire tourbillon – but the Classic Fusion is actually core to the brand's DNA, and always has been.

On paper, the pairing of Hiddleston and Hublot is an odd one. But dig deeper, and it makes perfect sense. Born within a year of one another – Hublot debuted the Classic Fusion in 1980; Hiddleston entered the world stylish in 1981 – both have become synonymous with ‘fusing’ the quintessential with the contemporary. In Hiddleston’s instance, it’s finding his Eton-educated Britishness deep in the fantastical realms of the Marvel Universe; for Hublot's Classic Fusion, it’s all about the decision to pair traditional watch design with a rubber strap. Previous unheard of, and liked to cheapening a watch, it turned out Hublot were onto something – many brands have since followed suit.

Forty or so years on then, and both Hublot and Hiddleston know how to spring a surprise and subvert expectations, making this a match made in horological heaven.
