Israeli Soldier Killed in Hezbollah Drone Attack Near Lebanon Border
Staff Sgt. (res.) Refael Kauders was killed during Hezbollah's drone attack on a military position near the Druze town of Hurfeish, along Israel's northern border
Staff Sgt. (res.) Refael Kauders, 39, from Tzur Hadassah, was killed on Wednesday during a Hezbollah drone attack on Israel's northern border, according to a statement released by the IDF on Thursday.
Kauders served as a Military Rabbinate coordinate in the 5030th Battalion. On Wednesday, Hezbollah fired drones at their position near Hurfeish, killing Kauders and wounding nine more – including a paramedic who came to provide.

Kauders was married to Yehudit and had four children. He was the son of Binyamin and Tirza. Born in the central city of Rehovot, Kauders attended the Mekor Haim Yeshiva High School in Neve Daniel, and was a student in the Jewish Philosophy Department at Ben-Gurion University. He worked as a matriculation and computerization coordinator at Or High School in Tzur Hadassah, and later worked for a company that developed an online management system for schools. He also worked as a tour guide in the West Bank.
His paternal grandparents, Edmundo (Yisrael) and Margharita (Matal) Kauders, were born in Milan, Italy and fled from the Nazis to Switzerland during World War II. The family made aliyah after the Six-Day War. His aunt, Bianca Shahrur, was killed in a 2003 terror attack in Jerusalem. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 4:00 P.M. in the military section of the Kfar Etzion Cemetery.
