Statue of Idrimi

The statue of Idrimi bears a cuneiform inscription which tells his story. Following a popular revolt in his home city, Alep, he is forced to go into exile along with his mother's family. They go to Emar, and from there to Canaan where Idrimi joins other refugees from Syria and lives with the homeless habiru peoples. Seven years later he mounts an expedition by ship and recaptures the city of Alalakh. There he extends the kingdom and begins rebuilding the royal palace, completed by his son.
