James Corden is aware of the rumor there is a version of Cats in which the feline characters have buttholes, but if it exists, he has not seen it. What’s more, the actor and Late Late Show host says nothing can make the 2019 debacle of a picture any better.
Dropping by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to talk about the new Netflix film in which he appears, The Prom, Colbert noted that Corden had appeared in numerous musical films through the years, which is how he got on the topic of Cats.
The film adaptation of the Broadway musical released last December was a widely mocked bomb. However, one of the most enjoyable moments of the film occurred when a stoned Seth Rogen live-tweeted the movie in March. That’s when a Twitter user claimed a VFX producer friend of a friend was hired to remove CGI buttholes that had been inserted. Ever since then, there has been a demand, led by Rogen, to release the butthole cut. Colbert also wants to see it.
Corden told Colbert that not only has he not seen the butthole cut, but, “I have not watched the film.” Asked if he’d prefer his character be anatomically correct in that instance, Corden replied, “I think, either way, it probably can’t save that movie.”
