Fun and Easy Ways to add Color to White Spaces
Leave your walls white and add color and interest with art, furniture and other accents
Color excites the eye and makes any space interesting and personal, but that doesn't mean you have to paint the walls. There are benefits to having white walls (if you rent, maybe your landlord has told you this already). White keeps a room feeling bright and clean, and is a great background color to make other colors visually stunning. Here are ways to make a white room sing with color.

Play up different spaces in an open floor plan. Keep your home light and white, and let color shine throughout on fabrics, wall art and furnishings/decor to divide up your open rooms.
Warm up a kids' room. Add a bolt of a perky color like yellow, along with a large pattern, to a white space and it will be really cheerful for the little ones. Add DIY touches such as trim around lamp shades.
Bring in one large piece of colorful artwork. To pull the eye into a space and make a colorful impact, pick up one big piece of artwork and place it on a focal wall above a sofa, bed, fireplace, table or dresser.
Create a warm master bedroom. Bring in warmth through furniture. Against a blue-tinted white wall (a relaxing shade of white), dark wood furniture feels divine. Fluffy white bedding looks like a tempting white cloud when placed on a chocolate finished bed frame, and the deep blue window treatments are not only great for keeping the room dark at night, but the blue is relaxing to the eye.
Add a little softness. This is great for a guest room palette. Keep the room cozy and soft by painting walls a gray white and adding layers of white bedding beginning with a bed skirt, sheets and quilt or coverlet, then add a blanket or throw at the end of the bed that has lighter quieter tinted colors. Then top the bed(s) with petal pillows.
Show off metal finishes. A crisp white background lets reflective finishes shine. This could be a good opportunity to add a gallery of gold or silver frames.
Add a large piece of colorful furniture. Wrap the largest piece of furniture in your room in color. Forget about a neutral sofa; bring in a happy colorful upholstered sofa. Or change up your current sofa by reupholstering or adding a slipcover.
Add a painted piece of furniture. Red, blue, green or any other color painted on a desk, buffet, accent table or even a bed frame can turn a white room into an inspired, fun space. I love the idea of using a piece of painted furniture in an entryway. It will be a "wow" moment for anyone entering your home.
