57st. design

We've had our Parson's table for two years, great design, beautiful. Sam, Pia, and the team worked with us on customizing it for our taste and dimensions. We were able to go to the workshop and see their work in person, so we knew we'd get great quality. The team has also been responsive in answering questions about how we care for this piece.

I am lucky enough to be the owner of three gorgeous pieces from 57 St. Design and could not be happier. My entire experience with them, from design to delivery, was exceptional. Thank you Pia (and the rest of the team) for being such wonderful people to work with!

Ordering furniture online is nerve wracking. You keep thinking how stupid you'll feel if you get something that's shoddy or get nothing at all. However, I ordered Forde nighstands, and I can report they're beautiful and look exactly like their online picture. I wanted a mid-century modern compatible design that was simple and had a top drawer with an ample area for books protected by a door (to thwart a book-eating dog). The nightstand is 32" long, which provides a lot of space and nicely balances our platform bed from T.Y. Fine Furniture (another furniture maker who's great to deal with, but their nightstands are more artistic than commodious). Lead time is 4 - 6 weeks (ours took 7). E-mails are promptly answered. Prices are a bargain. My only suggestion is that they need to label/stamp their pieces on the inside so that in a few decades I can still know the designer/manufacturer.

I can't recommend them highly enough. 57st design customized a nightstand for me. It was based on something from their website, but I wanted some adjustments. Not only were they happy to do that, they sent very professional renderings of their proposed changes. I was happy with the first draft, but it was clear that they would work with you until you were satisfied. It was a small project for them, but they were very responsive. I have been extremely happy with this product. The wood is beautiful; the design itself is lovely, and the drawers move very well. It looks like it cost much more than it did. I waited a bit after it was delivered to be sure (and then a bit longer, because I forgot to post this...), and it's held up extremely well to everyday wear. I plan to purchase more form them in the future.

Working with Sam Devenport and 57th Street Design was a pleasure. Finding this quality of craftsmanship and good taste along with a modernist aesthetic would have been enough. But Sam also indulged my ideas and numerous questions -- his artistry and attention to detail made the whole project a lot of fun. My storage bed and side tables (now the Forde, I think) couldn't be more perfect.

I had done a remodel of our master bedroom and needed two nightstands. My designer friend recommended 57st design's forde nightstand. It was exactly what I was looking for, but I it was too big to fit the space. When I asked 57st design to custom make a smaller version, they had a drawing with the new specs to me within two days and it was under construction in no time. They delivered it on time, if not early. The finished product is absolutely stunning. Wood quality that is better than I could have envisioned and overall craftsmanship outstanding. From my initial inquiry to the follow-up email letting me know the tables were shipped, 57st design was a pleasure to work with. I will absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for furniture and I will definitely be a repeat buyer.

I ordered the Forde Wideboy dresser in Cherry, and absolutely love it. The way the frame around the drawers tapers inward is a subtle and beautiful design touch, and the gap between the main body and the legs gives the sturdy dresser a lighter look. The wood grain is stunning, with sweeping natural patterns that don't look busy, and a soft luminous color. The hand finish feels smoother than paper. It almost has a powdery softness. The price point is tough to beat for such a high quality, solid wood, American-made dresser. As a young professional starting to build a home and lay down roots, I'm increasingly interested in forgoing mass-produced disposable furniture for classic, high quality pieces that can last me a lifetime. But, I want that at a price that I can afford as someone just 5 years into working. 57st. design offers me that perfect sweet spot. 57st. design was very professional throughout the process. We customized the design and discussed delivery options over email, and they were always very responsive and understanding of my needs. I was extremely pleased with the result, and hope to buy from them again soon.

Pia and Sam were amazing to work with. I couldn't be any happier with the project that I did with them. I needed a bookshelf for my house but wanted something unique. I worked with Sam and Pia and they designed a custom shelf for my house. The shelf is incredible and I get compliments on it all the time. We had a walnut desk built to our specifications. Sam asked us lots of questions, carefully listened to our needs for the space, and then came up with initial drawings. He was patient, professional, and thorough, and graciously worked with us to tweak the design a bit more until it was just what we wanted. Communication with Sam and everyone at 57st Design was easy and dependable -- something that we really appreciated about working with them. The desk was delivered within a very reasonable timeframe considering it was custom furniture, and we've been very happy with both its form and its function!

I went to 57st. design looking for a bookcase for my office. I wanted something beautiful, reasonably priced and a little different. Typically, you could expect to get, at best, two of those qualities at once. I ended up with all three. My bookcase is simple—there are no nails, screws, glue, nor complex joinery—I could take it apart and put it in the back of my small car in a matter of minutes. It is elegant, made of Baltic birch plywood, with the fine layers of ply revealed along the shelf and upright edges, providing a great, clean, striped detail. And its Danish soap finish is completely green. I like this bookcase so much I ordered a smaller one to hang on an adjacent wall. The company was great to deal with. They were quick and eager to tweak the design and to work with my, sometimes off kilter, ideas and produced a flawless final project in a very reasonable amount of time. I would highly recommend 57st. design and plan to use them again.

We found 57st. Design by accident, searching for a "local" company near our new home on the west coast. Their desk caught our eye but we wanted to know if we could make size and drawer alterations and get the desks safely from Chicago to the west. Assured of that, within a few days, drawings were sent; email and phone conversations with Pia and Sam concluded with final drawings, which we approved. Four weeks later, as promised, our desks, painstaking and carefully wrapped, arrived at our home. The attention to detail, workmanship and quality, their craft, is immediately apparent. Their staff and crew are flirting with excellence. We highly recommend 57st. Design. If you are in the market for handmade wood-crafted perfection, give them a chance to build it.

Great experience! I initially approached 57th St. Design to create a simple dresser for my daughter's room knowing I was going to get a solid (ash), well constructed piece of furniture. I hoped for a subtle twist of character. What I got was all of the above and more: a truly elegant piece with a subtle mid-century feel, perfect joinery, drawers that close with a whisper, and beautifully balance woodgrain... at a fantastic price. The company is fresh, friendly, and cares about their clients. We are very happy!
