A single family residence was created from two identical 750SF log cabins built in 1964 as low cost rental units. The cabins were moved off site while a lower level family level was excavated. Two transparent connector pieces provided important links both horizontally and vertically between the cabins. A sunken garden creates livability, a garden level landscape, indoor-outdoor relationships and a private refuge. A long ramp from the street/garage descends into the front entrance.

This project had two required outcomes; develop a bolder garden presence in both the front and back garden, while creating a unique area in the backyard for teenage boys to entertain in. The backyard was a very rocky site which included a bald, exposed rock and multiple levels, but which had an innate native feel - so this was built upon by planting a number of beautiful Australian species, such as Bracelet Honey Myrtle, Kangaroo Paw, Mat Rush, selected succulents, Coastal Rosemary, Japanese Box topiaries, Sweet Viburnum, Bird-of-Paradise, Box and Keteleeri Juniper. To carry the native feel throughout the entire redevelopment, the backyard construction included feature sandstone walling, timber bollards to support lighting and sandstone steps with decomposed granite. To ensure the area fulfilled its entertainment goal, a fire pit was created with timber seating surrounds and a new BBQ enclosure installed, complete with lighting and a gas BBQ for year-round functionality. The exposed rock was turned into a unique feature piece and the garden was punctuated with sculptures, tallowwood posts, sawn sandstone, castlight fittings and terrazzo pots to imbue a modern bent. This feel was carried throughout the front yard where new feature walling, pots and lighting complemented the same plant varieties. The end result is a bold modern garden which boasts year-round entertainment functionality and can be enjoyed by all ages.

The conversation area is near the swimming pool, and surrounds a black lava fire pit. A fairway separates the back yard from the nearby desert mountain.

Inspired by Balinese-style resorts, this contemporary home was designed to exude luxury and warmth. Created to accommodate 3 generations it is cleverly designed to allow enough space while maintaining a family focus.

This is the lounge fire pit area which will get a lot of use by both the kids and the adults. The flooring is made up of Belgard Mega Arbel pavers with a rectangular paver border. The boulders are natural and flank the seating area.

The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs and trees provide more outdoor space for dining and entertaining, less maintenance. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homewoners. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways while offering a contemporary transformation. The circular patio is a nice change from the traditional style of patio. The green grass provides a variety of texture next to the patio. In addition, the texture of the furniture also adds a interest to the landscape. This is a great place to have lots of memorable outdoor gatherings!!

In this project we converted an empty backyard into an Outdoor Living Space. Including: demolition of existing concrete, pool coping & plaster, grading, drainage infrastructure, new pool equipment, pool plumbing, new stamp concrete, water fountain, custom made fire-pit and sitting area, outdoor kitchen with an enclosure patio, low voltage lights and designed Landscape.

The end of August is rapidly approaching. We're getting closer and closer to cooler temperatures! For those of you that like to keep the party on the patio, this is just the kind of pop you're looking for. Firepits are great! There's a certain aesthetic with just having one there. It adds ambiance to the setting and just encourages relaxation. Even when the chatter dies down, it's enough entertainment in and of itself to keep people enamored with the vibe they can create.
