Stephen Colbert highlighted the potentially fatal festive flaw with a GOP congressman’s proposed response to recent drone sightings over New Jersey and elsewhere.

Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) “wants local police to shoot at anything in the sky in December,” Colbert noted on Monday’s episode of “The Late Show.”

Colbert cited CBS News’ reporting on Smith telling a press conference that his proposed legislation will allow state police “to have the same type of capability as the Department of Defense and Homeland Security that if necessary to down one of these unmanned drones.”

Colbert then sent a joking warning.

“Santa, I hope you have a Kevlar sleigh, and don’t forget to take the battery out of Rudolph’s nose,” he cracked.
