Eva Peron has been honoured in song, in film and on Broadway as Evita. Now the face of the former first lady will grace Argentina's currency.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner unveiled the new 100 peso note on the eve of the 60th anniversary of Peron's death on 26 July. She is the first woman to appear on any Argentine banknote.

Ms Fernandez, whose party was inspired by Eva's husband, Juan Peron, said the initial printing would be commemorative, but she said she wanted all new 100 peso notes to eventually carry the image.
