Representative Marie Newman took matters into her own hand on Wednesday, after she installed a trans pride flag outside her office – across the hall from Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene.
“Our neighbor, @RepMTG, tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ‘disgusting, immoral, and evil.’ Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” Newman tweeted, with a video of her putting on the flag.
This came in response to Greene, the controversial, right wing, QAnon-supporting lawmaker, calling the LGBTQ rights bill, “an attack on God’s creation.” The Equality Act, currently being debated in the house, is a bill designed to ban discrimination in the US based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
While some trolls called the situation “childish”, many people praised the video and the point it was making.

People called the clip “awesome” and “hilarious”. Actress Piper Perabo said it “made her day”.
“It’s the way she smiles and dusts her hands off at the end for me,” another person joked.

Marjorie Taylor Green later responded and escalated her attacks against Newman and the Equality Act a few hours later by installing her own sign outside her office across the hall:
"There are TWO genders. MALE & FEMALE. Trust the science!" it said.
"Our neighbor, @RepMarieNewman, wants to pass the so-called ‘Equality’ Act to destroy women’s rights and religious freedoms," Greene said in a tweet.
Many across social media called the sign “transphobic” and “hateful”, and Greene has “full knowledge that Rep Newman has a transgender daughter,” one person pointed out.

Earlier this week, Greene faced criticism after saying the Equality Act “would ensure ‘men who dress and think they are women will have rights over all real girls and women’.”
This inflammatory remarks seems to be just another in a long line of endorsing conspiracy theories and endorsing calls for violence against her political opponents.

Her colleague, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, accused Greene of "trying to get out of work early" after she made a motion to adjourn a vote on the anti-discrimination bill. AOC added, “you should probably stop using those hashtags because women’s rights include trans women.”
