Trump says he could have won the Afghanistan war in 10 days but doesn't want to kill 10 million people

Donald Trump's ability to say things that are completely reprehensible and quite frankly shocking shouldn't amaze us anymore but few would have predicted what he said about Afghanistan on Monday.

During a meeting at the White House with Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, Trump commented on the ongoing war in Afghanistan, which is approaching 18 years since the conflict began.

Although the war was started under the Bush administration Trump thinks that he could have ended the entire thing within 10 days but that would have required killing 10 million people.

I could win that war in a week . I just don’t want to kill 10 million people. 

I have plans on Afghanistan that if I wanted to win that war, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth, it would be gone, it would be over in literally 10 days.

I don't wanna go that route, so we are working with Pakistan and others to extricate ourselves.

Chilling stuff from the president, whose comments come during the middle of peace talks between the US and the Taliban to try and bring the war to an end and bring the 14,000 American troops, who are still stationed there, home.

Trump is possibly alluding to the 'mother of all bombs' that the US dropped on 36 Isis fighters in Afghanistan in April 2017, which he would later directly comment on when he bragged about the size of the hole that the explosion created.

That being said, Trump clearly doesn't want this to happen and have the blood of 10 million people on his hands, which is understandble. Although some have disputed whether the US would even have the capabillity to detonate a bomb of such scale anyway.

A US Air Force officer told Aaron Rupar of Vox that "We can’t kill 10 million [people] with just MOABs." The US military currently has 20 'mother of all bombs' at their disposal which wouldn't even kill 1 million people let alone 10 million.

Regardless, Trump's harrowing comments have been widely condemned on social media, with some accusing him of hypothetically promoting genocide.
