Ted Cruz ridiculed with Cancun memes after falling asleep during Biden speech

Last night, President Joe Biden delivered his first State of the Union speech, a hotly anticipated event in the political calendar,

The themes he covered were vast and vital and included the importance of education, vaccines to fight against Covid-19 said “white supremacy is terrorism” and lauded the American public’s reaction to the Capitol insurrection on January 6.

For those with no attention span, he managed to stuff it all in within a 71-minute timeframe which is very considerate.

Of course, there was the marked difference between his demeanour and that of his predecessor Donald Trump, who loves a good yell, ad-lib and cramming in lots of “alternative facts”. Noticing the parallels between the two is often unavoidable.

Throughout the speech, Republicans remained silent, sometimes giving the odd bit of applause. Most remained with a frozen scowl on their masked faces, probably something some of them would have opted not to wear if they had a choice.

However, one star of the show was none other than Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who was unusually silent, but it became evident to the internet that he had appeared to have nodded off to sleep. This of course led to an outpouring of jokes about what he was dreaming about.

Most agreed that he was dreaming about his failed vacation to Cancun in Mexico after pals of his leaked texts to The New York Times about their intentions to go away during a pandemic and while his constituents suffered through a deadly snowstorm that left them without power.

Here are some of the best reactions to Snoozy Cruz, who was nicknamed Senator Cancun yesterday by The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah.

Cruz did appear to poke fun at himself while also mocking Biden by tweeting a clip of himself falling asleep adding the hashtag #BoringButRadical.
