Woman wants to spend rest of life with ‘platonic love of life’ and raise children together

Imagine spending the rest of your life with your best friend by your side. Well, one TikToker has turned conventional relationship norms on their head by detailing (and living) her dream platonic relationship.

April Lexie Lee (@psychottie) took to her 15,000 followers in a bid to “normalise platonic life partners.” She explained how her best friend, who she described as her “platonic love of her life”, moved across the world from Singapore to Los Angeles to spend the rest of their lives together.

After 11 years of friendship, April revealed that friends and family questioned whether the pair were “f**cking crazy”, in which the TikToker raised a valid point that they wouldn’t have been “questioned about this as much if [they] were lovers.”

“We see a life together, we want to buy a house together, we want to start a retirement fund together. We might even adopt a child together and raise it as friends,” she explained, to which one enlightened viewer responded, “My mind is blown right now. It just never occurred to me this was an option, and I love it and I want it!”

After half a decade apart, April’s friend made the move to LA. She later posted the reunion clip to TikTok, which has racked up nearly half a million views.

Fellow users flocked to the viral video – many of which shared their “platonic relationship” success stories.

“Me and my bestie! We bought a house together and she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” one said. “Strong friendships can be life-saving.”

Another followed suit and commented, “Me and my bestie are buying a house together this year. We have already lived together for 15 years.”

One quoted American singer and songwriter Ryn Weaver, saying, “Soul mates aren’t just lovers, you know.”

“My boss did that with her friend. They even bought a house together. They’re still going strong after 35 years. It can be done,” another added.
