Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids have no interest in following in their parents’ famous footsteps. “No, I think they’re especially shy, very private people,” she told E! News of Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, on October 27. “They want to be private.”

That’s not exactly conducive to living in L.A. “Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place,” Angelina said last year, revealing that she planned to travel more and move out of Hollywood after her divorce and custody battle from Brad, which has been waging since 2016, is settled. As soon as Vivienne and Knox turn 18 in about a year and a half, Angelina added, “I’ll be able to leave.” A source exclusively tells In Touch, “She’s been planning her escape.”

NOMADIC LIVING

The family already spends as much time as possible abroad. “She was happiest when she and the children traveled and lived in various locations, soaking up the culture, learning from local tutors and experiencing different ways of life,” says the source, noting that Angelina, 49, was in NYC for most of this year, producing The Outsiders on Broadway alongside Vivienne and launching her Atelier Jolie artists’ collective, in which Pax has been heavily involved. Pax and Maddox also worked as assistants on her film, Maria, which was filmed in Budapest, Milan and Paris. (Zahara, meanwhile, was studying in Atlanta at Spelman College.)

Angelina also has a longtime home in southeast Asia. “I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,” she said last year. And she’d like to add a home base in England, adds the source. “She’s a very solitary person but she actually has friends in Europe, so it will be easier for her to travel around,” says the source, noting that it doesn’t hurt that her good friend and rumored love interest, rapper Akala, lives in London. “She wants the children to follow their passions and go wherever they like.”

She’s raised them to be citizens of the world. “And of course they were all born outside of the U.S. — even her biological kids,” the source points out. Angelina has always stressed that they should seek out “authenticity” and “humanity” that can’t be found in LA, she’s said. “I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
