Break-ins at both Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ houses in Kansas City had the authorities and other professional athletes on edge. The NFL issued a security alert and advised players across a range of sports to consider setting up extra precautions when they were away from home, and fans want to know more details about the incidents.

What Happened to Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ Houses?

Patrick’s Kansas City, Missouri-area home was burglarized in October, In Touch can confirm.

A break-in at Patrick’s Belton, Missouri, mansion was reported to local police at around midnight on October 6, 2024, according to Cass County Sheriff’s Office documents obtained by In Touch on November 13, 2024.

TMZ Sports was the first to report the news.

Hours after Patrick’s home was burglarized, Travis’ mansion in Leawood, Missouri, was also broken into on October 7, 2024, according to the outlet. The Kansas City Chiefs played a home game at Arrowhead Stadium against the New Orleans Saints that day, coming out victorious with a score of 26 to 13.

A Large Amount of Cash Was Stolen From Travis Kelce’s Home

A police activity log obtained by TMZ Sports revealed that the burglary at Travis’ home was reported on October 8, 2024. The outlet reported that the break-in occurred shortly after kick-off during the Chiefs vs. Saints Monday Night Football game and the criminals stole approximately $20,000 in cash from Travis’ house.

ABC News reported that a watch was also stolen from the Grotesquerie star’s residence, and it was later found in Providence, Rhode Island, the following month.

Sources told the outlet that “they believe the two burglaries may be part of a larger crime spree in the area.”

What Has Patrick Mahomes Said About the Burglary?

Patrick opened up about the burglary during a Kansas City Chiefs press conference on November 13, 2024.

“It’s frustrating, it’s disappointing. I can’t get into too many details because the investigation is ongoing,” Patrick told the reporters. “Obviously [this is] something you don’t want to happen to anybody, but obviously yourself.”

When asked if anyone in his family was home during the robbery, the KC quarterback couldn’t offer much information.

“I can’t speak too much about the details of everything, just with the investigation going on,” Patrick explained. “But I’m sure at some point that will be talked about.”

Why Did the NFL Issue a Security Alert?

On November 21, 2024, the NFL issued a security alert to teams and the players’ unions regarding the burglaries, according to the Associated Press. The alert stated that professional athletes across a range of different sports are being “increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.”

The outlet reported that the robberies typically occur on the days the athletes have games and advised the players to take extra security precautions when they would be away from their homes. Extensive research and surveillance had been done by the groups that included the criminals posing as delivery workers, maintenance crews and joggers. The memo also warned the athletes of updating their social media profiles with information that revealed their whereabouts, daily activities and more.

Travis Kelce Moved in 2023 After Realizing His Old Home Was Too Accessible

The break-ins came almost exactly one year after Travis purchased his estate in Leawood for $6 million so that he could have more privacy amid his romance with Taylor Swift. The mansion features six bedrooms, six baths and spans over 16,000 square feet. It also comes with several luxurious amenities, including a waterfall, swimming pool and mini golf course.

Sources told TMZ that the Chiefs tight end decided to move after he realized that his old home in the Briarcliff West neighborhood of Kansas City was too accessible amid the public interest in his romance with Taylor. His Leawood home is in a gated community, which offered a sense of privacy and security.

However, even moving to a seemingly safer community didn’t completely stop the safety issues, as Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce, revealed during a February 2024 appearance on “The Big Podcast With Shaq.”

“[Travis] had to completely move out of his house. People were just staying by his house,” he said. “I mean [for] safety reasons, [he had to move.] And the first day he moved into the new house … [in] a gated community, somebody knocks on the back window of the house.”

Travis also opened up about his frustrations over getting an excessive amount of fan mail during a May 2024 episode of his and Jason’s “New Heights” podcast.

“The one thing you don’t realize, that when somebody posts your house online, that everybody now has your address and people just send stuff to your house,” the footballer said. “So I literally stopped getting mail to my house. I had to stop. I had to literally tell the post office and everybody to, like, stop bringing stuff to my house.”

Travis added, “Anything sent to my house, send right back to the sender. So anybody that’s just sending random s–t to my house, uh, it’s not getting to me.”
