The first iPhone of 2007 introduced a revolution in the category of virtual keyboards. Since then, keyboards in iOS have evolved significantly. Among the biggest milestones of change is, for example, the support of third-party keyboards with the arrival of iOS 8. All of them become smarter every year, and in the case of Apple, mainly in the form of auto-correction and prediction of word input.
Surely each of you has your own opinion on auto correction. For some, it helps to significantly reduce the time spent on writing. Others find it so annoying that they prefer to turn it off. It has already brought many people into embarrassing situations, when the person in question accidentally sent something other than what he originally intended, because his message was automatically "corrected". That's why we bring you a few tips on how to deal with auto proofreading:
Reset the keyboard dictionary
The keyboard offers you corrections for specific words as you type. If you reject its repair several times in a row by clicking on X, he will remember it and next time he won't bother you with this expression. So it's important to remember that Apple's keyboard is still learning. But it's possible that you accidentally taught her something that you don't like now. A simple way to solve this problem is to clear the keyboard dictionary. Here's how to unlearn everything:
- Open the application Settings
- Continue to category In general
- Now at the very bottom click on Restore
- Press Reset keyboard dictionary
Use text replacement
Even though this is not a function of auto proofreading itself, it can be used as an excellent addition. It is especially useful for Czech. If the iPhone does not know the given word at all, it is possible to teach it "the hard way".
- Open again Settings
- Go to In general
- Now to Keyboard
- Click on Text replacement
- Press the ➕ button
- To the field Phrase complete the whole word or sentence correctly
- Pole Abbreviation you can either leave it blank, so the phone will take this word as correctly written, or write here a shortened or simplified version of the phrase from point no. 6 - then it will be enough to write the chosen abbreviation and it will be transcribed to the preset text.
Turn off auto proof completely
If none of the above instructions work and you are already on the verge of madness, you can turn off the auto proofreading completely.
- Open as in other cases Settings
- Click on In general
- Click on Keyboard
- Move the switch Auto proofreading to the off position
rather, I would need to change one word that constantly corrects me when I write it correctly, it corrects it to the wrong one, and as I leave it quickly, I only notice it later..
I think you have to cross it out 3 times
Just write the word in the text replacement as a Phrase. Leave the Abbreviation field blank.
Have keyboards evolved? Maybe remember elementary school.
