Even the MacBook Pro battery is not immortal, so after several hundred charging cycles there will come a time when it needs to be replaced. Apple services are currently facing a shortage of new batteries for the 2012-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Specifically, these are Mid 2013 and Early XNUMX models. Since they are already years old and replacement is already necessary for many of them, it is a rather pressing problem for their owners.
Fortunately, the Cupertino company came up with two temporary solutions. Can wait until the batteries are available again, which should be this September, and Apple then they will cover all replacement costs. However, a far more attractive solution is the possibility of an immediate exchange for a corresponding functional model.
Although the models in question appeared on the market already four to five years ago, the experiences of customers who Apple traded in their old MacBook Pro for a significantly newer model.
For example, a Reddit user with the nickname NoTNoS confided that he took the latest, this year's fifteen-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, from the App Store in exchange for a 2012 MacBook Pro. He said he waited ten working days, during which he could still use his old MacBook Pro. He paid only 199 dollars (4 crowns), which is the amount you Apple in America it normally charges for battery replacement. In case of program membership AppleCare+ wants nothing.
Exchange is also possible in authorized service centers
Dozens of similar stories are circulating on Reddit, we can count the unsuccessful cases on the fingers of one hand. Most customers received 2015 MacBook Pros, which is an achievement in itself. Even those who were even more fortunate and received models from 2016 and 2017 were not exactly few.
According to the MacRumors server, which came up with the information, owners of the affected models can try their luck either in the App Store or at authorized service providers, which we also have in the Czech Republic. And since it doesn't look like the trade-in offer is regionally restricted, you could be in for a treat if you own one of the aforementioned MacBook Pros. It is said that it is not even necessary to be part of the program AppleCare+. It's not certain, but you won't pay anything for trying.
Apple of course, he will carry out a thorough diagnosis to assess whether you are entitled to a replacement. However, you can check it yourself in advance by going to About This Mac > System Profile > Power. In Cupertino, they consider the battery worth replacing when its charging capacity is below 80 percent. The number of charging cycles should then be under 1000. However, the experience of successful customers indicates that in many cases these conditions were not met, and yet the replacement for a newer piece took place.

Oops, I have a 2010 MacBook Pro.
Where are the days when the battery from Apple was for 1000 cycles.

sure ;) I already have a second battery and 1200 cycles, but the warranty is only for 300...
These are orders, as long as one has to be lucky - there are considerable differences between the individual pieces.
That's stupid... if the battery will have more than 1000 cycles and will have a smaller capacity than some of the ones they have (I don't know exactly off the top of my head right now) I'll admit it, but if it's more, then bad luck
Jirka Koubů what is stupidity? I don't understand what you want to say.
Has anyone verified whether it also applies here?
You could, for example, someone from letemsvetemapplem call the authorized service and ask….
Can someone check if it also applies in CR?
I have already sent a question to the authorized service and I am waiting for a reply
Thank you very much David. I wonder…
LSA so jump in Apple Storing and chatting? (Only Prague or maybe also iStyles resellers?) The equivalent model should therefore not have worse hw afterwards.
for example, call the Czech service? and ask what is the truth? I believe that I will respond to you sooner than to some customer.

Do I have Air?
hmmm, I have 2013, 297 cycles
I have an rMBP mid 2012, the battery has already been changed once, but I have a feeling that a top case with a CZ keyboard in stock will be fine...
I'm also curious what your answer will be. I just wanted to change the battery, three years old, still original, over 800 cycles, but it's already gone :/
Do you know if this also applies to "thirteen" models?
I received a reply from the authorized service that this information is not completely relevant in the Czech Republic because Apple still has parts in stock for Czech device models...
Well, the question is what is enough. 1 flashlight? 100?
It will probably be better to wait a few more days until the stocks are thin even for our market, and then everyone rushes to the services for "new batteries" :-D
