There is a wide range of tablets in the world… and then there is the iPad from Apple. Its importance can hardly be denied, and despite some naysayers, it could be said that the iPad succeeded in bringing a certain revolution to the world of tablets, and despite initial skepticism, the iPad eventually became one of Apple's most successful products. Let's recall the history of this tablet.

In the beginning there was a tablet

First generation

Apple launched pre-orders for the first iPad on March 12, 2010, with a release date set for April 3. Initially, only models with WiFi connectivity were available, and from April 30, customers who wanted a tablet with 3G connectivity also got their way - but it was limited to the operator AT&T and a data plan of 250MB. Outside the United States, the iPad was only available for purchase from May 28.

With the iPad 2, Apple managed to raise its tablet with all its functions and design to an even higher level. The iPad 2 sold successfully for many years and offered support for iOS 4 to iOS 9. It was the iPad 2 that Apple he started trying to promote it as a teaching device as well.

"The New iPad" and iPad mini

2012 brought the third generation to the world Apple iPad with a dual-core A5X processor, significantly improved graphics and, for the first time in the history of iPads, also with a Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 or, for example, LTE connection support. The fourth-generation iPad didn't take long to arrive - Apple he published it already in October of the same year. It offered the A6X processor, FaceTime HD, wider LTE compatibility and a Lightning port instead of the wide 30-pin port.

In November 2012, the significantly smaller and lighter iPad mini with a 7,9-inch display was released.

In November 2013, the Apple company released the iPad Air, which boasted a significantly lighter, more elegant design and lightness. The thickness of the device did not exceed 7,5 millimeters, and the Air was 22% lighter than the iPad 2. Apple at the same time, he made the bezels significantly thinner for the "Air", improved both cameras and equipped it with an A7 processor together with an M7 motion coprocessor. 2014 marked a number of significant changes for several apple products. There was a huge design leap from the iPhone 5s to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, of course, Apple tablets also received changes and improvements – the iPad Air 2 was the first to feature Touch ID, a triple-core A8X processor, 2GB of RAM and a new, elegant design. The Touch ID function was also added to the iPad mini 3, which was released in the same year.

The iPad Pro was eagerly awaited by everyone. After months of speculation regarding the price, features and design, the world was surprised by a tablet with a 12,9-inch display, an A9X processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM and a Smart connector, but above all the support Apple Pencil. 2017 and beyond

In June 2017 Apple improved the iPad Pro range and equipped the new models with a six-core 2,34GHz A10X processor, 4GB of RAM and a True Tone display. The smaller version of the iPad Pro increased the display to 10,5 inches and Apple he made the frames significantly thinner.
