More than 12 months have passed since the introduction of the new operating systems led by iOS 3 and macOS Mojave, during which intensive beta testing took place. I also installed the macOS Mojave beta on my Mac, thanks to which I managed to get a pretty good picture of the new Mac operating system in that quarter. So what can I say about the new macOS 10.14 Mojave?
If you follow the scene regarding new operating systems, you surely know that macOS 10.14 Mojave has a full-fledged dark mode (finally). Of course, a visible acceleration of the entire system must not be missing. We also got new and redesigned applications, a change in taking screenshots, and last but not least, so-called sets that you can use to better organize your files. But let's analyze all these news in a little more detail.
From luxurious and modern design…
It is the design that has probably changed the most in the new macOS. I already take dark mode for granted on my Mac and don't even realize that it shouldn't be part of macOS anymore. Personally, I think that dark colors have a greater touch of luxury than the opposite light colors. Mainly, dark colors are more pleasant at night, when you don't have to worry about the bright environment "burning" your eyes. The best part is that Apple they are trying to bring dark mode really everywhere, and when I mean everywhere, I really mean everywhere. It is, of course, part of the interface of third-party applications, and where dark mode is supposed to be, it is usually there. However, it is true that, for example, in Photoshop, several versions of macOS already show me a bright spot when saving a file that would Apple could fix. So the dark mode works more than well.
Another novelty related to design are very pleasant dynamic wallpapers. Maybe you're not quite sure what you mean by dynamic wallpaper. This is a set of 16 wallpapers that dynamically change depending on what time it is. If you open your Mac in the morning, you can look forward to a beautiful, bright wallpaper that will awaken your creative spirit. In the afternoon, the wallpaper begins to darken slowly, and as soon as day and night begin to overlap, the wallpapers are eerily dark. However, I personally had a problem with the dynamic wallpapers - they simply did not work for me and did not rotate. Only a complete reinstallation of macOS solved it. But I think only a small fraction of users had the same problem. Maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I dedicate the last paragraph in the "design" section to the redesigned App Store. Personally, I think that the newly redesigned App Store is what Apple failed at all with macOS Mojave, and according to other reviews on other portals, I think I'm certainly not alone. The user interface of the new App Store may seem simpler and clearer at the moment, but unfortunately I have to say that it is not. I don't know why, but I just don't like something about the new App Store. Most likely, it is unnecessarily inspired by the App Store from iOS. In any case, Apple is fully aware that the new App Stor does not fully satisfy users and is working hard to fix it. We'll see with what Apple will come
macOS Mojave also saw the premiere of the Dictaphone application – i.e. a kind of recorder that works similarly to iOS. The Home, Actions and News applications were also introduced. The latter, however, is not available for the Czech Republic.
…via sets and redesigned screenshots…
Sets (perhaps a slightly more pleasant name in English - stacks) will help you with better organization of the desktop. Personally, I try to keep my desktop clean, so I don't use this function a lot, but I think that there will definitely be users who like the sets. Let's say you have several files on your desktop - from images to documents to, for example, movies. If you choose to use sets, all files that are of the same type are merged under one set. After using sets, you won't have a million icons on your desktop, but only a set of images, documents, videos, etc. In a way, sets slightly remind me of grouping notifications in iOS 12.
If you decide to take a screenshot in macOS Mojave, it might feel a little like you're working with iOS again. After taking a screenshot, a screenshot preview will appear in the lower right corner. If you click on the preview, you can easily edit it using annotations before saving. But the preview is not only for you to edit the screenshot. Personally, I very often use the preview when I want to send a screenshot to someone. I simply grab the preview and move it to the Messenger window - so I don't have to wait for the screenshot to save and then search for it on my desktop. The same applies locally to the system itself - if you do not want the screenshot to be saved to the desktop, simply grab the preview with the cursor and move it to where the resulting screenshot should be saved. In this case, I have to Apple praise for the inspiration from iOS.
...right down to acceleration and greater fluidity
It's been about a quarter of a year since the first beta version, and I have to say that in that quarter of a year, Apple managed to perfect macOS Mojave almost to perfection. When I installed the first developer beta, I honestly regretted it for a moment. The whole system was choppy, not smooth, and sometimes I really wanted to take the Mac and throw it out the window. Constant application crashes, overheating of the Mac even when nothing was happening - this was my daily routine from the beginning. However, I must say that Apple managed to catch all the flies and now macOS Mojave works as it should.
In my opinion, compared to High Sierra, it is noticeably faster and, above all, smoother. I personally can't judge, but I think that following the example of iOS 12, macOS Mojave will also run much better on older Macs and MacBooks. If any of you have macOS Mojave installed on an older Mac, be sure to let us know in the comments if it's better or worse than the previous version of macOS.
záver
In conclusion, I would say that macOS Mojave is not bad at all. Personally, I'm slightly scarred by the first versions of this operating system, so I'm not as positive as I should be. However, if you are going to switch to the Mojave from the High Sierra "until" now, then I fully approve of this move. There's really nothing to worry about - you'll love the new dark mode and dynamic wallpapers. The redesigned functionality of screenshots is also very successful. Last but not least, you can look forward to a generally faster and smoother system operation. The only thing you might not like is the new App Store - but let's face it, we don't spend that much time in it on Mac, so we'll definitely give it a try.
Regarding the dark mode - if I open any page in Safari, the background of the page is normally white. That's normal? According to the article, I would assume not. In most third-party applications, of course. Please let me know how you are doing?! Blankets.
Of course 3rd party support is needed, otherwise it will be classically light, eg qBitorrent is white, the same is with Unarchiver, etc. Pages, Numbers and Keynote were updated last week.
…and the safari?
Webove stránky Apple cannot influence it in any way - if the author of the website, e.g. Seznam.cz, wishes the background to be white according to the design, then it will be so.
Dark Mode refers to applications on MacOS or third-party applications that use template colors from the UI Framework
CSS web developers have to dig through this and incorporate WebKit into their pages. This is not the responsibility of Mac OS. Can you suddenly imagine that the white background will be black with black writing?
It will be defined separately in CSS
@media (prefers-dark-interface) {
root: {
–text-color: Azure;
–back-color: DarkBlue;
}
}
Thanks for the reply.
I don't understand this
"In my opinion, compared to High Sierra, it is noticeably faster and, above all, smoother. I personally can't judge, but I think that following the example of iOS 12, macOS Mojave will also run much better on older Macs and MacBooks."
Do you always contradict yourself?!
And in what specifically? The author has a MacBook Pro 13 2017, and according to him, it is faster and, above all, smoother on this one - he did not have the opportunity to test it on older machines, so he asks if this is really the case with IOS12.
I guess I don't have to be an atomic physicist to get that, do I?
……I read it over. Somehow I missed the word "opposite". I apologize to the author.
I own a computer Apple from mid 2011. When installing Mojave OS I am told that to this computer
unable to install Mojave OS. What will the company do? Apple hailed as the best in the computer world,
bauch Nova OS install? At this time I can cancel this computer and due to my age (80
years) to think about cremation. Thank you for your message.
Best regards, František.
I have a Macbook 12 2015 in the highest configuration that was sold as standard without extra charge... I'm now on Sierra.. I had High Sierra, then I tried Mojave and I have to say that it's slower every year... I don't know how much it's improved since the last beta, but In contrast, Sierra is lightning.. does anyone have a more positive experience with this machine?
So, I'm running Mojave on a Macbook PRO 2015 and a MAC Mini 2012 and I'm seeing noticeable speed improvements on both…. so I have the opposite experience
Well, I'm worried if Apple doesn't slow down the battery and MacBooks... I've had it for two and a half years, only 118 cycles and the battery capacity is 73%... nova 7500,-=D
otherwise, with High Sierra, you have to switch the user here and wait five seconds before the login window appears.. with Sierra, it happens immediately..
hmm… that's strange Jeremy EN , 118 cycles and 73% capacity after two years? Although I have a macbook Pro, it's still about 1,8 years old, 177 cycles and the battery is 93%. Either they put lower quality batteries in the smaller macbooks or you don't treat it the best. I don't know. There will be a mistake somewhere. Or as you write...the intention, but that's speculation.
I have a Macbook pro 2015 13zoll 2 years 3 months 243 cycles 95% of the full capacity, mac os sierra... I charge from 5% to 100% (I don't interrupt during charging) I've had it max 10 times with adapters, I always go through the battery, (I'm editing photos in LR and videos in imovie + fan on manual as needed) ... I watch Horizon GO on it, which is such a super tuned website with the silverlight plugin, that I can use the mac to heat a passive house ... sometimes I do a pram and smc, otherwise I never use it did not reinstall... iphone 5s 4 year old battery 1110 cycles, also from 5-100%, but since about 900th cycle, I have been charging it everywhere for the last 3 months, until then it held up well... but in my opinion, the iPhone went best with the ios with which I bought it ( about ios7, I don't remember exactly)... ios 10,11, 12 nothing much... XNUMX sleeps great but I can't evaluate the battery, because I would have to get a new one first... I like Mojave, but I won't install it, because I know it will end up like iphone :D
sorry for the spelling
Any experience with Mojave on a 2013 MacBook Pro???
Thank you.
I've had Mojave since beta 5 on a macbook pro 2012 mid (16GB RAM and SSD) and I don't know if it's faster, but at least comparable to High Sierra
everything without problems, I also use parallels and some construction programs and I don't register any problems with speed, it doesn't hang, it's very usable ;)
Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 13 (2017). Anyone having a similar problem with the login screen? I have a default wallpaper, but if I restart or turn off the computer, I always have sand dunes on the wallpaper when I log in. Changing the wallpaper to a different one doesn't help, I currently have the latest build.
I don't know now, but how is APERTURE working on newer systems? I have El Capitan. Will it work on higher systems?
Thank you
Until the first repair patch comes out, I'm not downloading yet. I have a MacBook mid 2014 for work and I consider High Sierra to be a snow leopard. I don't like the new Macbooks anymore, I prefer the iMac. Unfortunately until Apple they won't revise their prices, so I think that not only me but also a lot of other users will keep their older models. I don't know if they slowed me down with the new OS, so for now I'm waiting for the excitement to subside and the reviews to be more accurate
….well done :-)
Have a nice day everyone. After installing the Mojave system on my mbpro (2017), everything runs great except for one detail :) the EIZO CS230 external monitor is purple in the computer. it's like a purple film over the screen. In all applications at any color setting. the monitor is connected USB-C>HDMI. Does anyone know what to do with it? Thank you.
I have air mid 2013 and I updated to Mojave yesterday. At first glance, everything is ok. Just two things.
1.) when you turn it off and then turn it on, the sand dune wallpaper is displayed and after entering the mac password it turns black and then an apple is displayed and it takes some time to start (I did not see this under highsierra)
2.) I write in Safari with completely faded fonts - I open the same page in another browser and everything is fine. Does anyone know what to do with it??
I decided to install…I have a half year old Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM…I switched from Sierra…I was hoping it would be as fast or faster but it is much lazier, even apps like Opera are slower to start, not to mention others… out of 8 Gb of RAM without any running applications, about 3 Gb remain free... so nothing much... I have to say that next to me on the table is an old Mini Mac Intel Core Duo with 2 Gb with Snow Leopard OS... and that is quite a bit of a bummer :-)
Hello, I don't know if it's the installation of Mojave (I changed macbook at the same time), but it is no longer possible to send sms from the message app, only iMessage. I'm upset that I can't set it up, or is it just like that in the new message app? Don't you know? Thank you.
I have a question. Does anyone know if Mojave OS is compatible with Parallels Desktop version 13?
Thanks for the help. M.
Today I updated to Mojave – imac 27′ late 2015 retina, 24gb ram. Error!
It's lazy, takes forever to start, wakes up from sleep 30 seconds, slow app, doesn't respond as it should. All day I'll be reinstalling it to a clean version and installing programs. I hope it helps... Apple has done something again...
I also have an iMac 27″ late 2015 retina, 24GB..and I also switched to Mojave..and everything slowed down..I just created problems..is there anything to do with it..??
No problem
Thank you very much. To release such a moron into the world. I have a MacBook Pro 2017, 15”, 500 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM and since 5.10.18 only problems with 10.14 Mojave. It's happening, even after the last update 10.14.1, parallels started pouring, or writing to disk, which means another unnecessary reboot. So last night I rolled everything back to the latest version of High Sierra. It holds steady. What kind of desert genie did they release? When will it work?
Hello, I have a problem with Mojave, because a lot of things in Office don't work for me at once, for example, colored text in Word, do you think it can be fixed with patching dust, or should I solve it differently? Is there actually a way to switch back to High Sierra? Thanks a lot for the advice… :)
Hello, I don't know how to proceed with this here, but does anyone have experience with Mojave in the domain? There is the problem that if after switching on you do not manage to log in to the domain account within a short period of time, in short you cannot log in any more, you have to restart the PC. I haven't tried iMacs with MacBook yet. However, if the account is fixed, this problem does not exist. If anyone has any tips and advice :) thanks
Hello everyone. Except for the constant disconnection of the mouse, which I consider to be a big problem of OS Mojave. I wouldn't recommend installing as yet Apple it doesn't solve it at all.
Is it worth it to go for a late 2014 Macbook? Does anyone have practical experience?
New experience... since Sierra doesn't support playing 4K videos from iPhone xs on MAC I was forced to install a newer system on MAC pro retina 13 early 2015 2.7 i5. I chose Mojave and it's noticeably slower and choppy. So today there is a downgrade to High Sierra ... I do not rule out a return to Sierra either ...
