A few weeks ago, the apple company released a new iOS update, this time with serial number 12.4. Since this is not a completely new version of iOS, it is clear that we will not see completely new and revolutionary functions in it. You are Apple in fact, it hides it in iOS 13, which we will see together with the new iPhones and other products in a month. However, with each update of the current system, the Californian giant tries to improve battery life, fix errors and bugs, and possibly add some minor news. In the case of iOS 12.4, there was a significant improvement in the endurance of some iPhones, which you can see for yourself in the video that I attach at the end of the article.
I understand that some of you may not want to watch the entire video, so we will also discuss the improvement of stamina in text form. Channel iAppleBytes, who took care of the endurance test video, put five iPhones together side by side - 5s, 6, 6s, 7 and 8. First iOS 12.3.1 was installed on these devices, and then iOS 12.4. The test took place in the famous benchmark program Geekbench 4, which can provide information about the battery inside the phone in addition to the performance of the phone itself. However, please note that the actual times may vary. This is because during testing, the device is fully loaded, so the endurance time is shorter than if you use the device on a daily basis.
Of the tested iPhones, the battery life has improved in practically all of them, except for the 6s model - and quite significantly. The iPhone 5s got 12.4 extra minutes of battery life on iOS 18, and the iPhone 6 got 34 extra minutes. As for the iPhone 6s, it's almost exactly the same with battery life. Moving on to the iPhone 7, which lasts 12.4 minutes longer on iOS 34, the iPhone 8 then lasts 19 minutes longer. As I mentioned once, in this case there is an extreme load on the device, which is why these minutes can easily turn into hours when using the device on a daily basis. With the arrival of iOS 12.4, do you also notice more battery life on your devices or not?
It seems to me that after a while my iPhone XS MAX starts to overheat
I think it's more the temperatures outside
It's not the heat :)
I have an iPhone X and after the update it seems that my phone is overheating too. I'll wait for iOS 13 and see 😉
I have a 6s and I feel like it's even worse
Also s6 but vice versa
I have owned an iPhone for over two years and have been participating in BETA testing since the beginning. I don't remember exactly what I started with, but it was around 10.1. After installing 11.0 I practically lost my phone and turned it into a paperweight and pocket warmer. The phone was literally on fire. It blew up my battery within a few days, which Apple complained about and replaced. After a year and a bit I had 93% battery. Then they fixed the error and everything is ok. With 12.3, I installed 13.0 and the problem from 11 is repeated literally. The phone is totally overheated, the battery is decreasing so fast that it is on the order of percent within a minute. I have to go back to 12.3 or 12.4 and I have peace of mind. So the return was for life, so if anyone is thinking about the 13th now, cough it up and wait.
Tested on iPhone SE
I recommend backup, wipe data completely, restore via iCloud and current 12.4 (shift + click update) and then restore from iCloud backup. If it doesn't help, download 12.3 and reinstall
I don't feel that battery life has improved, but after switching to watch os 5.3, instead of 2 days, my watch doesn't last even a day.
I have 12.1.3 and I am quite satisfied. Should I risk 12.4?
Lukas, in no way don't risk it!!
I have an ip7 and it doesn't seem any better
Iphone Xs…. considerable began to overheat !!!! And it's not the heat!!
I have the same problem with SXMAX
SE with 12.4
Switching from 12.1.4 and it gets hotter when charging and the battery life is better than with 12.4, it drives fine all day, now it's already discharged in the afternoon
I would say 30-40% faster discharge
My iPhone 7's battery life dropped significantly!!! Although it charges faster, I'd rather have it last longer.
