Limit background updates
Most apps these days update their content in the background. For example, if you open a weather application, you will see the current weather forecast, if you open a social network application, you will see the latest posts, etc. Since this is a background action, hardware is being used, which can especially be the case with older watch lead to system slowdown. Therefore, it is useful to limit background updates to increase endurance. You can do so in Settings → General → Background Updates. Either the function can be turned off completely, or it can be limited only for certain applications.
Turn off effects and animations
When using Apple Watch, i.e. watchOS, you can notice various effects and animations. They make the system look good, however, this is an operation that needs hardware performance, which can lead to system slowdown. So for instant acceleration, effects and animations can be turned off, which I would recommend to all owners of older Apple watches. You can turn it off in Settings → Accessibility → Restrict movement, where the switch activate possibility Limit movement.
Removing unnecessary applications
In order for your Apple Watch to work as expected and not get stuck, it is necessary that you have enough free space in the storage. Storage space can be mainly taken up by applications, which you can also check in Settings → General → Storage. If you would later like to delete unnecessary applications, just go to the Watch application on your iPhone, where you go to My watch a click on the specific application below. Then, according to the type of application, tap on Delete the app on Apple Watch and disable Show on Apple Watch. In addition, by default they are installed on Apple Watch automatically apps you download to your iPhone, which can be disabled in My Watch → General, where turn off Automatic installation of applications.
Shutting down unused applications
On the iPhone, you can turn off apps through the app switcher, which is especially useful if an app freezes. In terms of performance, shutting down apps on the iPhone makes no sense. On Apple Watch however, it is different, and especially on older models, you can significantly speed up the watchOS system by turning off unused applications. If you would like to turn off the application, first move to it, and then hold the side button, when it appears screen with sliders. Then that's it hold the digital crown until it happens to hide the screen. You have successfully exited the application.
Deleting data and settings
If none of the above tips helped you speed up, then you can Apple Watch still reset, i.e. delete their data and settings. While this is a big deal on the iPhone, it isn't on the Apple Watch, as most of the data is mirrored from the iPhone itself, so you won't lose it. The whole process of deleting data and settings Apple Watch it only takes a few minutes and you can do it by going to Settings → General → Reset. Just click here Erase data and settings, subsequently se authorize a confirm the action. Then wait for the deletion to complete, and then Apple Watch pair with iPhone again.
