Over the past few freezing days, I have been using the My BMW app every day when I return from a morning walk with the dog to turn on the auxiliary heater and get into a warm car. It was because of the frequency of use that I thought I would also add a widget to this app for faster heating start-up. Unfortunately, around that time, I started to realize that the battery percentage on my iPhone It literally disappears before my eyes. Since I've had the phone for about four months and the battery is 100% healthy, I could immediately rule out a bad battery and so I started looking.

The first thing to do is to look at the battery usage of individual applications, where at first glance it seemed that nothing was draining the battery more than standard. OneThe BMW widget didn't actually use the app at all, at least according to the App Usage report, and it wasn't until I selected the option to show activity that I noticed how much it was running in the background. The widget also constantly communicates with the vehicle to, for example, know if everything is OK in the car or inform you about the fuel level. In the show activity report, I found that oneThe widget has been running for 10 hours in the last ten days, which is quite a lot. After removing the widget, the battery consumption returned to normal.

So, if out of the blue your phone starts consuming more power than you're used to, the best option is to take a good look at the application activities in the battery settings and see if there's anything suspicious there. Alternatively, just remember what you've changed on your phone lately and roll it back.
