Apple's recently released iOS 16.3 didn't fare too well. Not only do some apple users claim that it has significantly reduced the battery life of their phones or stuck them, but more and more users are beginning to report that it has also partially disabled iCloud backup and data synchronization from it.

The error that began to manifest itself in some apple users after the transition to iOS 16.3 is, to a certain extent, completely simple. Some items in the iCloud settings, which until then could be backed up to this storage without any problems, simply turned off, grayed out after the transition, and now it is impossible to activate them. When you try to activate it, either nothing happens at all, or messages like "An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later", and the feature cannot be activated after repeated attempts. The unpleasant thing is that the error also affects iCloud Drive, Photos and other key items without which iPhones may not be used as comfortably as users are used to. The inability to activate backups logically also disables synchronization, so files uploaded to iCloud Drive from another device cannot be seen on the affected iPhone and vice versa.

While it's not entirely clear what could be causing the error at this point, users agree that it's most likely the newly introduced security key authentication option along with the expansion of iCloud Enhanced Data Protection from the US to other countries. Be that as it may, there is no simple operational solution to get everything up and running yet, so apparently there will be nothing left but to wait for a corrective update, which will have to Apple to issue for commissioning. However, the positive thing is that it is apparently already being worked on and could perhaps arrive already this week under the designation 16.3.1.
