It started last week Apple finally test the fourth major version of the iOS 16 operating system in the form of 16.4. And since it will bring quite a lot of interesting news to iPhones, we will introduce you to the most important ones in the coming lines. As for the release of the sharp version, it can be expected in about a month. Apple namely, he usually tests his systems for five bets at weekly intervals.
New emoji
While in previous years he supplied Apple loads of new emojis on iPhones usually in the fall in the second or third major version of their new OS, this time they deploy them up to iOS 16.4. So, if you like to use emojis for communication and at the same time you have been missing a donkey, ginger, shaking face or a few new colored hearts, iOS 16.4 will finally satisfy you in this regard. On the other hand, it leaves those of us who use approximately 10 emoticons all the time when communicating, on the contrary, completely cold, because it does not bring any essential emoji that deserves to be included in our repertoire. By the way, take a look for yourself in the gallery below.
Web notifications
Last year at WWDC Apple promised users that they would enable the reception of web notifications on iPhones, which have been working on Macs for many years. The wait has been long, but iOS 16.4 finally brings this option. So if you have any favorite websites, if they adopt a few technical necessities, it will be possible to receive their notifications exactly as you receive notifications from applications, with the fact that it will of course be possible to "click through" to the article in Safari through them. However, the catch is that in order for the whole matter to be possible, you will need to have this website saved on your iPhone's desktop (or perhaps in a folder on your desktop) and, of course, be subscribed to it. Only in this case will the given website start to behave de facto as an application and will be visible in the iPhone settings.
Easier installation of beta versions
Beta testing will be much more pleasant from iOS 16.4. A section for betas will be added to the iPhone settings, which will allow you to set which betas you want to download to your iPhone (of course, depending on which beta profile you have installed on your iPhone. you will "turn off" for some time without removing the configuration beta accounts and install public versions of the system, with the fact that it will then be possible to jump back into beta testing thanks to the settings.
Improved Podcasts app in iOS and CarPlay
To the application Apple A new feature has arrived in Podcasts in the form of the Channels section, which displays a list of all your podcast channels in one place. There's also a Next section, which contains episodes you've saved for later listening. In addition, these elements are now also available in CarPlay, with the overall simplification of the application in CarPlay to make it more intuitive to control while driving.
Reintroduction of improved Households
After the failure from iOS 16.2, it returns Apple in iOS 16.4, the possibility to upgrade the HomeKit home to a new architecture that should bring it higher performance, speed and stability. Users who have already managed to upgrade in the past and it only brought them problems should now finally see a fix.
New emoji, or new emoji!!!!
I hope that the web notifications, or those annoying requests from every other site for them will be turned off
So far there is very little information about the whole thing, but what we have available and know, it seems that pop-ups asking for notifications should not be available.
It works completely differently than via notification requests :)
According to what is known, as long as you use the page in a browser (Safari, but also the alternative Chrome and others), the notifications will not work. In order for them to start working, the site will need to be installed on the phone as a PWA application. iOS already supports the installation of PWA apps, as does Android, Windows or macOS. A PWA app gets its own icon, its own window/screen without browser controls, visually it behaves like a standalone app, even though it's still just a web page running on top of the browser core. The PWA also has some support for offline execution.
Notifications will now also start working in PWA applications on the iPhone. They still won't work in the browser.
I think it makes a lot of sense from a developer's point of view. Finally, it will be possible to make a web application that meets the PWA standard, and it will be possible to run it on both iPhone and Android as a "standalone" application without having to download and install it from the AppStore, including notifications. It will be possible to write an application once and with a little it will work on all platforms, on all operating systems. There will be no need to write an application for each system separately.
It still won't be suitable for all applications, because the iPhone has a maximum limit of 50 MB for PWA applications, but that may change over time. Step by step.
