The Christmas holidays are traditionally a time when the rush of patients at hospital emergency rooms increases dramatically, and several-hour waits for treatment are not an exception. This year, telemedicine significantly helped the emergency room. People often turned their questions to a doctor on the phone first and consulted their health problems remotely. Often there was no need for them to visit the emergency room at all. The Czech telemedicine application MEDDI app offers remote health status consultation and emergency medical service literally at any time, which served almost four thousand patients during the holidays. In the application, its users can, among other things, receive an eRecipe, immediately check the availability of medicines, such as insufficient antibiotics, and order them at the selected branch of the Dr.Max pharmacy.
"A total of 3 patients contacted our doctors during the Christmas holidays. More than half of these cases involved situations where parents of sick children used the possibility of round-the-clock medical assistance through the MEDDI application, which also includes the service of a pediatrician. The robustness of our medical network is evidenced by the fact that none of these patients waited more than 852 minutes to connect with a doctor," said Jiří Pecina, founder and director of MEDDI hub as, which operates the MEDDI app.
"We know what the situation is like in hospital emergency rooms at Christmas, so we are glad that we could help deal with some of the patients whose condition does not require emergency medical intervention," adds Jiří Pecina. It is not unusual that, for example, more than 250 parents with children turn to the children's emergency department of the Motol University Hospital every day. For many patients, symptomatic treatment, the use of drugs to lower the temperature, rest and sufficient fluid intake are sufficient. The doctor on the phone can assess the health condition and consider whether a personal visit to the emergency room is really necessary.
In the MEDDI app, doctors are available 24/7 and thus provide you with the consultation you need at any time. Even if your doctor is not directly in the application, the application guarantees that all clients will always be served by a doctor on duty within a maximum of 30 minutes. "However, the average waiting time for an examination is actually less than 6 minutes, even after midnight," points out Jiří Pecina.
