That he wants Apple coming up with a brand new model line of iPhones next year has been rumored for quite a few months. This is specifically supposed to be the iPhone 17 Slim, or if you prefer the Air, as the very well-informed reporter Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has now begun to label them. The main privilege of this series should be its processing, which should stand out for its extreme thinness and low weight. However, it seems that next year will be just a very interesting taster in this direction.
Gurman's sources claim that the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air/Slim will be just the first step into a new era of iPhones, which will focus on an extremely thin body, but in which extremely powerful hardware will be hidden. What is quite interesting, however, is that the Slim model will not be a replacement for the basic models or the Pro series, but a completely new product line that will attract precisely its specific features. The basic iPhones and iPhones of the Pro series are supposed to deviate from it in the future, especially by deploying a thin chassis, but they are not supposed to completely copy this concept. However, even a mere thinning could in the end mean a very solid revolution, at least for the Pro series, since in that case it would deliver extremely thin phones with extraordinary performance, which would quite possibly set trends on the market.
Since the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air/Slim is still quite far away, all speculation about it should be taken with a grain of salt. A lot can still change in its development, so the whole project can be put on ice. Since however Apple is said to be striving hard to create an interesting intermediate stage between the Air and Pro series with completely new features, the arrival of a similar model next year would certainly not be surprising.
