Pixar has released the official teaser or trailer for Toy Story 5, which will be released in 2026. What's interesting about it is that they used animation of characters from Apple Watch, from 2017. Animated watch faces debuted on Apple Watch in 2017, roughly two years before the release of Toy Story 4, and few would have guessed that the animated watch faces from Apple Watch they will become what Pixar presents the new part of Toy Story 5. Nevertheless, it happened, and after the steel claw picks up the alien holding the poster for the new Toy Story 5, the characters on this poster come to life and do exactly the animations you know from their own Apple Watch.
Apple Watch brought animated characters from Toy Story originally for watchOS 4 and Pixar likes the animations so much that 7 years later they used them to present the movie that will be released in two years. It appears that the film, which is set to open in the US on June 19, 2026 and is being written by Andrew Stanton, doesn't even have enough animations to make a trailer yet. Pixar is very close to Apple, mainly due to the fact that Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, was also the owner of the Pixar studio, which he bought from George Lucas in 1986 for less than $10 million and sold to Disney in 2006 for $7,4 billion , which Disney paid him in the form of 7% of all Disney stock and also by getting a seat on Disney's board of directors.
Stealing the idea for this from a friend but yeah these are literally just the animations from the watchOS 4 Toy Story Apple Watch face 💀
They even look like they've had a back background edited out https://t.co/aGlrI7YgV1 pic.twitter.com/cvk63GuJdS
