Apple The II was Apple's second computer and the successor to the Apple I. It went on sale in 1977. It was the world's first highly successful mass-produced computer. Compared to its predecessor, it supported output to a monitor and television and could display up to 8 colors at a resolution of 280 x 192 px and up to 16 colors at a resolution of 40 x 48 px. It later got a 5,25-inch floppy disk drive for more convenient data storage and recording. In addition, it had a built-in one-bit speaker and, via a cassette tape recorder, also a one-bit microphone and headphone jack. The design underwent a big change – it was no longer an unsightly box resembling a typewriter, but a significantly more modern-looking home computer. He was followed by models Apple II Plus, Apple IIe a Apple IIc.
