The iOS 12 operating system announced Apple in mid-2018 (as traditionally at its WWDC conference) and released three months later alongside the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. Besides these, it was compatible with iPhone X, 8/8 Plus, 7/7 Plus, 6S/6S Plus, 6/6 Plus, 5S and SE (1st generation), iPad Air 1-3, iPad 5th and 6th generation , iPad mini 2–5, iPad Pro 12.9 (1st–3rd generation), iPad Pro 9.7 and 10.5 and iPad Pro 11 (2018), and iPod Touch 6th and 7th generation. In addition to significantly faster application startup (e.g. with the iPhone 6 Plus, it was up to 40% faster according to Apple), the system brought the Screen Time function, which records the amount of time the user spent using the device and certain applications, the ability to set Shortcuts, which are automated actions performed at the request of the user through the voice assistant Siri, support for Animoji, Memoji and new text and GIF effects in the FaceTime application, a redesign of the Photos application, which included the addition of four new tabs (Photos, For You, Albums and Search), the Do Not Disturb function, which gives users more options for automating notifications, a redesigned app Apple Maps, which now relies on first-party map assets instead of data supplied by third parties, support for third-party navigation apps in CarPlay (Waze, Google Maps…) or a new augmented reality app called Measure, which is used to measure real-world objects.
