The Macintosh LC 520 was launched in mid-1993. It was the first representative of the new Macintosh 500 series, which was part of the Macintosh LC family and the successor to the compact Macs. The series models featured an all-in-one desktop design with a built-in 14-inch color monitor, CD drive and stereo speakers. The chassis of the series models was similar to the Macintosh Color Classic introduced a few months earlier, but was significantly larger and heavier (due to the larger screen and electronics). The Macintosh LC 520 was equipped with a Motorola 68030 processor, 5 MB of operating memory and HDD with a capacity of 80 and 160 MB. Like the other models in the series, it was primarily intended for the mainstream education market (a home version called the Performa 520 was also available; this duality also existed with the other models in the LC 500 series).
