Its Difficult, when you segregate 4 skips of segregated waste, to land, and it gets collected from the finger pier the goes to other side and all tipped in the dock. Merchant Shipping is legally required to segregate, but a lot of countries are not. Even the UK they put everything together, but the Marine Shipping Act forces us into it, this needs to be explained to the Ships Crew. Vessel can be arrested or fined for not complying, but the Quay they are alongside does not need to.

In the condition that a crew member disputes the control measures being employed the following steps are to be taken: a) understand the point of concern raised by individual b) elucidate policy guidelines being followed and scope covering activities pertaining to operations c) try to extract the difficulties/ challenges being faced d) inform about the management rules/ regulations placed to help in carrying out the requisite duties for the same e) incase issue is due to superior or subordinate necessary directives to be promulgated and checks to be put in place. f) ensure necessary training and questionnaires help people in understanding the right approach and pointers for ambiguity if any faced in completion of task

Great to see the various good inputs. As it all leads - we need to look at the awareness of crew member as what are the consequences of polluting sea, why the barriers are there to control. Listen to him, educate him and mentor as required. It is worth looking at the system and effectiveness of the trainings.
