Confronting a client who hinders group progress can feel daunting, but it’s also an opportunity to refine your communication and leadership skills. Empathy first! Listen to their concerns and frustrations. Sometimes, what appears as resistance may stem from fear, misunderstanding, or unmet needs. Focus on actionable solutions rather than pointing out what’s going wrong. Be solution-oriented and propose adjustments that can improve collaboration. Empower your team by reframing the situation as a chance to adapt, learn, and strengthen collaboration. Their growth comes from navigating these challenges successfully.

Understanding our role as Coaches and connecting with our purpose is key to supporting the client and getting back on track. Addressing the issue assertively and with empathy is key. I would approach the client privately and ask them to share their perspective to uncover underlying issues. Also, providing constructive feedback, with objective examples of their actions and effects increases awareness and identifies actionable suggestions for improvement and solutions. Offering the client additional coaching support and setting clear expectations moving forward to reconnect with the common purpose will rekindle collaboration and engagement. Lastly, regularly check in to monitor progress and reinforce positive changes to sustain momentum.
