It's important to make a distinction that failure is an event, not a characteristic. That goes a long way in preventing people from taking it too personally- one of the key reasons why many people don't embrace failure all that well. When people make mistakes, it's important to assure them that it's ok to make mistakes. Rather than being too hard on themselves, how they can look at it as a learning opportunity. And that shift starts with you as a leader. When you make mistakes, how do you respond to it? Are you kind to yourself? Do you take ownership of the mistake and focus on how you can learn from it? That heavily influences how people around you embrace mistakes/failures.

I appreciate the connection between failing forward and opening opportunities for innovation! In regard to open acknowledgement of errors, I will add some nuances: 1. Self acknowledgement matters. Ask yourself: do you believe you can grow and be better? Do you accept the feedback and course correction? 2. If your team made an error: take ownership. Do not place blame on your team. Support them: they did the best they could in that moment and they will appreciate the feedback to grow and opportunity to be better more when you take responsibility as a leader.

I believe a growth mindset is a key characteristics of servant leaders, and intrinsic to its very definition. A servant leader inspires the team to overcome challenges, to trust their abilities and know that they can learn what is required. Same as servant leaders that are continuously learning to be in the best position to support their team.

Indeed, establishing a growth mindset takes time and effort. Leverage real-life, lived experiences for reflection. Invest time to analyze these past situations when you may have had a more fixed mindset. Consider the rationale for your decisions and actions, and ponder what alternatives become available with a growth mindset. I learned the lesson of authenticity long ago, and it goes a long way. It works for when we are trying to recognize others, and when we are trying to provide constructive feedback. We now know through Neuroscience that only when we are authentic in our communication does the intended results are obtained through activating the correct part of the brain and emotions. There is a lot of power in being authentic to connect with the team and trigger the emotion and the behavior that will help them grow.
