Yes, the leap to entrepreneurship in my opinion shouldn't be a gut reaction. There's quite a lot to plan and consider. For me personally, putting aside my eagerness to build a business, it was a combination of three factors: 1. Experience - When I graduated from MIT Sloan, I was not ready for entrepreneurship. I simply did not have enough work experience or deep functional expertise. 10 years later, I still had lots to learn, but I was ready! 2. Financial Ability - There's much to consider here - Are you supporting a family? Do you have a mortgage? startups take a long time to get to meaningful funding, so I would plan for 2 years with no salary. 3. Family / Spouse support - Critical to discuss this given the uphill journey.

Know the market. Assess the market. And above all, certainly the most difficult part of such decisions: dare to do it... maybe the most difficult part...(and it might not be easy...)

Carve a few hours per day to polish the idea and talk to as many customers and domain experts. 2. if your team is able to create an initial MVP to do some user testing and iterations - Great! 3. When you have clear customer commitments / LOIs and are in the process of raising a FFF round, it's the time to wrap up your job and transition to full time entrepreneur mode.

Understanding market demand in advance can save time and resources. Creating a successful idea requires more than just a good concept - it also involves making something that consumers are willing to purchase. Build confidence before moving forward with plans. Is it enough for what you need? Do you have some money in the bank to survive a few months? Each person has a different risk management. In my books, if your startup generates a substantial revenue that can support you not living out of a pizza box - go for it. You can always come back to a corporate job later on if the things don't work out. Why settle? Most people stay at a corporate job for their entire life being happy, and that's your safety net if things don't work out. Not bad, eh?

You will need longer than you think to launch your business after quitting. 12 months can be a surprisingly short runway to start making real money. As an entrepreneur, you can move fast. But, the market moves slow. Scheduling calls, building products, and closing sales all take weeks and months. Don't leap into entrepreneurship without having a sufficient runway. 12 months is nice. 18-24 months is more realistic. The longer you can survive, the more shots you can put on goal and the more likely you are to succeed. Plan for success and prepare a healthy runway before taking the jump.
