In the teams that I run, I feel we have been able to introduce the need for diversity and inclusion in our DNA. The main reason is – there is a constant effort to question stereotypes – which means avoiding unthinking biases/prejudices. Places that feel safe – often naturally gravitate towards diversity and inclusion. Some steps are helpful: looking constantly for alternate views and perspectives; acknowledging slip-ups and oversights – and finally, try our level best to create an environment for open communication (including through informal channels). I have only recently begun to realise the value of this indirect communication – often used by individuals who don’t feel completely safe or courageous.

I love diversity in the team. It helps in learning so much about each other and the learning never stops. We should celebrate the uniqueness of each team member & there should be open communication so that everyone can put their thoughts forward. As well as embedding new policies, revising current policies to ensure they're up-to-date is crucial. After partaking in a Mental Health First Aid course, I had the opportunity to review and update our Wellbeing Policy with my colleague. Here's a few ways you can improve current policies: - Language used. Can you improve anything? Maybe you can make it more precise or even broader to include a wider group. - Ensuring clarity around what is expected from both the employers and the employees - Signposting to relevant resources - Reviewing dress codes regarding things such as tattoos, hair colour or style to ensure inclusion - Allowing flexible working where possible - Reviewing whether the policy is being implemented periodically

Many Muslim women prefer to nurse their babies in covered areas as not to be exposed. - Creche facilities (albeit nannies) for single parents or working parents to bring along their small kids. - Separate bathrooms for all genders. - Awareness programs and trainings for soft skills on how to 'communicate' and address any social, religious, cultural differences with correct u language
