One on one meetings are a crucial way to develop an environment and respect. They also serve as a valuable tool to help develop employees and give them the opportunity to have a voice and work on the challenges. While it may be difficult to make the time in a busy day to consistently meet one on one with your team, it provides a great opportunity to really get to the heart of issues and help them to solve their own problems. Make the time! You can even ask your team if they want to meet each time; sometimes perhaps they’re too busy and won’t be in the right mindset. Making yourself available to your team, however, will always give them the chance to have time with you no matter what.

I endeavor to connect the work we do within the institution to the larger community, highlighting how our research, teaching, and service can make a tangible difference in people's lives. By involving employees in community partnerships and outreach programs, we not only enhance our societal contribution but also deepen our own understanding of the real-world applications of our academic pursuits. This symbiotic relationship between our institution and the community serves as a constant reminder of the broader purpose and meaningful impact of our daily efforts, reinforcing a shared commitment to societal advancement and educational excellence.

Recently, I integrated my more than 15 years of research on sense of purpose to highlight that even if all forms of purpose play a critical role to motivate individuals and organizations, altruistic purpose is shown to play the most critical role in not only contributing to sense or commitment and persistence but also individuals and thereby, organizations well-being and flourishing. Amidst the crises that people are facing worldwide, it becomes more important than ever to strive for causes that can contribute to wellbeing of all forms of life and use our individual talents as well as organizations initiatives to make a difference. These endeavors will of course strengthen sense of purpose but also make a positive impact beyond-the-self
